Whidbey Island Weekend Outing
We’ve been taking full advantage of my extra time off by scheduling mini-holidays over the weekends as much as possible. Pretty much anywhere that’s reasonably drivable and allows for exploring and relaxing is a possible destination, and living in the PNW means that list is wonderfully long! This past weekend we ventured to Whidbey Island for the first time, and I am pretty much in love with it. The rental we stayed at was seriously waterfront (During high tide, the deck seemed to hover over the waves. It was glorious.) and the surrounding parks were full of lovely hiking trails, picturesque beaches, and breathtaking vistas.
We also enjoyed good food in Coupeville, a charming little “historic waterfront” town that had the usual standard of great seafood-inspired cuisine and a fantastic local ice cream shop, plus a view of fishing boats, harbor seals, and a quaint wharf to enjoy the sunshine from.
All in all, I definitely want to visit again - we had amazing weather, and barely scraped the surface of trails and activities that you can do on (or from) the island. And the photographic opportunities were amazing! I’ve included both my digital shots and my film shots below (most from my Canon 6D, which valiantly lasted the entire weekend even while flashing the low battery signal at me, quite uselessly, as I’d carelessly forgotten a charger or spare).
